Toastmasters Honor Distinguished Member of Club

Rancho Bernardo, CA - August 27, 2008 - Dennis Seisun’s twelve years with RB Toastmasters Club #112 were celebrated with a luncheon at Courtyard Marriott last Thursday. He served the club twice as President and earned awards of Advanced Bronze, Silver, and finally Gold. He also represented RB at Area and District Toastmaster Speaking Contests. At the luncheon, his fellow toastmasters expressed their admiration and affection for him.

You may have seen Dennis in his reflective vest zipping around Rancho Bernardo on his motorcycle. You may know him as a neighbor because he served on the HOA of Camino Bernardo, and on the traffic and safety committee of the RB Community Council. You may know Dennis and his wife Verena’s two children, Christine (born 1984) and Daniel (born 1986) who attended Turtleback Elementary, Bernardo Heights Middle School, and RB High.

A proud American since 1985, Dennis came to the USA in 1980. He was born in Egypt in 1951 with UK citizenship. He lived in Rhodesia during his high school years from 1965 (year of Unilateral Declaration of Independence from UK) until 1969. He left Rhodesia to attend The University of Bath in the UK in 1970. In the next few years he earned both his BS and his MS degrees in Engineering. He also studied market research in Belgium.

Dennis addressed the deadly fear most people have of speaking in public. He found Toastmasters so important to him that he hardly missed any meetings in the last twelve years unless traveling on business. He insisted that the early wake up to attend the 7 AM meetings at Gateway was worth it.

He added, "One hears that America is a melting pot of cultures. Toastmasters is a mini-version of America in that respect. I love the variety of people, persuasions and positions that one mixes with at RB Toastmasters."

Verena, like Dennis, was born in Egypt, but lived in Switzerland until their marriage in England. They moved to San Diego in 1980. Dennis worked as a consultant in Food Hydrocolloids (those things that give texture to your food). Dennis and Verena, now empty nesters, are moving to Hillcrest.
